According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), a number of studies suggest that acupuncture works particularly well on pain such as back and neck pain; Osteoarthritis/knee pain; and headache. It often reduces the incidence and severity of tension headaches and may prevent migraines etc.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through the skin at strategic points of the body. The key component of traditional Chinese medicine is the use of Acupuncture which is most commonly used to treat pain. Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force. Many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and tissues connectivity.
Some believed that this stimulation boosts your body's natural painkillers. Acupuncture is used mainly to relieve discomfort associated with a variety of diseases and conditions, including, Chemotherapy-induced and postoperative nausea and vomiting,
dental pain including tension headaches like migraines, labour pains, lower back and neck pains, osteoarthritis and menstrual cramps pains syndromes.
One acupuncture session does not usually result in relief of pain. One or two sessions a week for five to six weeks is the normal course of treatment. Your physician will discuss with you how many treatments you should have and how often you should have them.
